TOEFL
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a proficiency test used primarily by American and Canadian colleges and universities, as well as embassies, to determine a student's ability to study full-time in English at post secondary level. The TOEFL test in Nepal is administered by the Fulbright Commission in Gyaneshwor. It is an internet-based testing (iBT), and rigorously assesses an individual's listening, reading, speaking and grammatical skills; as well as analyzing written ability in the form of a compulsory essay.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a computer based and computer adaptive test for applicants wishing to study in the US . These tests are available on demand the whole year round at hundreds of testing centers the world over.
A satisfactory score in the TOEFL is an essential requirement for admission into all universities and colleges in the USA and some in the UK and Australia . The TOEFL has four modules

Entry, Mid-term, and Exit tests to track progress IELTS INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTING SYSTEM (IELTS)
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a test of English as a foreign language which tests the student's proficiency in the four areas of the English language; Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, with a band score of 1to 9 for each individual section.
There are two kinds of IELTS Test Preparation Courses: the Academic Training and The General Training. The Academic is for the candidates who wish to pursue their higher education overseas whereas the General is for immigration and training requirements abroad.
The classrooms are spacious and fully equipped with up-to-date IELTS teaching materials. The timings of the classes will be for ten hours a week from Monday to Friday. The teacher will provide one hour theory class and the students will have one hour practical class in the library or in the self access lab.
Every Sunday full listening, reading and writing tests are held for a two and half hour duration along with the band scores. In the test each student is provided with individual headphones along with his or her personal volume control.
Speaking Practice Tests are similar to those of the real test modules. The speaking module will be from 11 to 14 minutes and consists of an oral interview between the candidate and the examiner. The speaking interviews are recorded on tape for students' revision. Multimedia Digital Lab The twentieth century was marked by the electronic transistor and the machines and ideas made possible by it. As a result, the world changed from analog to digital. Although the computer reigns supreme in the digital domain, it is not the only digital device. Facilities The IELTS students are provided with live video presentations of national and international programs of the IELTS sub-test modules via: Listening, Reading , Writing and Speaking, from the in-house collections self-access lab. There is a well-equipped self-access library for each IELTS module and a compiled IELTS writing text book with model question & answer as well as sample essays with band scores and examiners' remarks. The book also contains a wide variety of IELTS model essay questions for class room discussions. Materials Students are provided with a free IELTS text book, an audio cassette together with an IELTS compiled writing text book for writing that contains both questions & answers. Students are given the opportunity to access the study materials for reading, writing and listening practices from the web, as well as from the library. |
